Have you ever spilled coffee on your favorite T-shirt? Yeah, a bitch, I know… However, if you’re a coffee addict (just like us) you’re gonna LOVE Javaboi Industries, a company run by this fine fella, Mr. Eric A. Johnson. Not only do they produce great looking tees with coffee-based designs, but are in the middle of big takeover, hopefully over the world.

We were lucky enough to be sent not one, but TWO of their awesome T-shirts for a review (and your reading pleasure) and instantly fell in love with them. Great designs printed onto high quality fabric (100% cotton, of course) and a lot of additional details – you can see a strong professional signature to Javaboi products. Guess Eric learned his lesson well from his mentor – Johnny Cupcakes himself. No wonder one of the biggest players in the industry – Lana Fuchs – picked Javaboi for her new business adventure. But, read about it later – let’s start with the packaging first.

  • Packaging

When you’re trying to be different and original you’ve gotta think about details. And packaging is for sure one of those details. This packaging is none more than awesome, with shirts being packed in custom foil bags, looking like a new brand of coffee. Ace! We loved Javaboi 2-colors sticker on the bag, which was carefully sealed so it didn’t look possible to pack 2 shirts in it. However, they somehow managed to do so, and there goes a big thumb up for the clever and original T-shirt packaging!

Now, with shirts so nicely packed we were very eager to try them on and see how they feel when dressed on, especially when we felt how incredible soft they feel beneath fingers.

Review sample no. 1

Javaboi logo T-shirt

Javaboi logo T-shirt

  • Overall feeling – this is JBI official logo lady-style T-shirt (the review sample is sized M) with a copyrighted / trademark Javaboi logo. Make sure you remember it – it might become quite popular soon. Shirt feels very soft, kinda like American Apparel brand, but I’m not 100% sure because Javaboi prints onto few different kinds of garment, all made in USA.  When tried on the shirt appears to be a bit longer, although not that much, and embraces your body line gently & softly, which is a big plus since it fits slim. In case you don’t know which size to order don’t worry, because there is a sizing chart link by each product at Javaboi online store.
  • Design – you just gotta love this design! It’s very cute, clear and bold at the same time, so it’s applicable to many kinds of garments (tees, sweatshirts, hoodies, caps…) and might looks awesome as a sticker or a patch. I love how Javaboi made a fun character out of a coffee mug, plus they’ve added these retro / 70’s looking letters, which are accompanied by custom calligraphy. You can see this logo is developed very clever, as well as the whole Javaboi line.

  • Printing method & maintenance – this design is screen-printed with white and gray inks onto garment made of 100% ringspun cotton. If you’re not familiar with this method of printing then you gotta know that the inks are applied directly to garment through a framed piece of silk (that’s why it is also called silk-screening), which allows a years-long durability of colors / print if maintained according to instructions. And the instructions are simple – wash with alike colors, turned inside-out, and do not iron over the image.
  • Additional details & pricing – attention to details – that’s what Javaboi is all about – and that’s what everybody likes. There is a custom Javaboi neck tag sewn in, which looks great and adds a strong professional signature to the shirt. There’s also a small Javaboi logo patch on the back, just below the neck, and I especially love how it’s done – people often print their brands’ logo on the back, and Javaboi wanted their logo to literally stick out, which adds to originality. The price is great, too – only $15.00 will get you this nice branded tee that you’ll wear for years.

Review sample no. 2

First shirt justified high expectations – at least in our case – so let’s take a look at second Javaboi review sample, also lady-styled and sized M.

Javaboi Fresh & Pink T-shirt

Javaboi Fresh & Pink T-shirt

  • Overall feeling – just like the first review sample – the second one is none less than great! It might appear to you that it’s a bit thinner, but both shirts are of medium thickness. When dressed on this tee stretches a bit, but without losing it’s form, which is a huge plus. I would again claim it to be of American Apparel kind – at least it feels like AA brand. Nevertheless, you’ll notice quality at first sight (if you’re aiming for the best – just like in Javaboi’s case – you’ve got to use premium quality garments).
  • Design – this particular design is called “Javaboi Fresh Coffee And Pink” and when applied to brown colored shirt you get a nice combination of colors. Pink usually reminds of “girly” stuff, so to speak, and this design is not an exception, even though it might be worn by your grandma, without her looking odd (maybe it would just look ironic). I especially like that vintage script behind Javaboi Fresh logo, which makes this tee look so appealing. I believe timeless design is the right choice of words.

  • Printing method & maintenance – screen printing again – I imagine it would be impossible to apply this design to a garment using vinyl cutting. And if you’re serious about you’re business you’re not using heat-transfers or direct-to-garment printing, because it obviously doesn’t guarantee years-long durability of applied design, unlike screen-printing. Just remember to wash this shirt turned inside-out with alike colors, and do not iron over the design (I personally iron all my shirts turned inside-out – it preserves not only the design, but the original color of the shirt).
  • Additional details & pricing – just like the previous one – this tee also has a custom logo neck tag sewn in, with tee specifics and maintenance instructions attached. Plus, there’s another Javaboi patch on the back – a real cutie, I tell you! This shirt is also priced $15.00, which is more than affordable price for such  nicely done T-shirt. A value for money, I assure you.

Conclusion

Having in mind all of the stuff stated above – Javaboi Industries is cream of the crop when it comes to independent T-shirt producing. Finest quality garments with nice, big, bold and often retro / vintage oriented coffee-based designs, all wrapped up with original packaging and more than affordable prices – what more could you possibly want from a clothing brand?

Therefore we’re not exaggerating with our post title – especially when you know that at the moment Javaboi is talking big business with aforementioned Lana Fuchs, respectable owner of several clothing brands (I’m sure you know about Lana Fuchs Couture and B-Mafia). If everything happens as planned – Javaboi might as well become big worldwide brand just like Hello Kitty and Johnny Cupcakes. These two shirts prove our statement. And remember – you’ve read about it at Teezine first! Also read Eric Johnson’s interesting story on creating Javaboi.

Did you like these Javaboi T-shirts? Are you a coffee (and T-shirt) addict? We’d love to know what you thought about this review, so don’t hesitate to leave your comment below! Thanks!

Sun. Fun. California. Well, what more to expect from California-based clothing line Crawl Apparel, than colorful T-shirts, fun designs and big prints? Founded back in 2009. Crawl Apparel quickly became well known in the local area, having their fan base ever-growing (4.000+ likes on Facebook is more than respectable number). Recently we had a privilege to try on and review one of their great-looking shirts, appropriately called “Beerscape 2.0”.

I must be completely honest and admit I’m not a big fan of big prints and screechy colors. Besides – when Crawl package arrived at my place I didn’t know which shirt they’ve chosen to submit for a review. And when I tore up the envelope I was pleasantly surprised when I noticed one of my favorite colors: blue. Other than that – the print looked very decent, having in mind their latest line was all about graffiti-alike colors. Plus – there is a special feature to this tee, so continue reading.

Beerscape 2.0 T-shirt by Crawl Apparel

Beerscape 2.0 T-shirt by Crawl Apparel

  • Overall feeling

This shirt is of greatest quality. You will notice it on the first look. Both the fabric and print look and feel great. By now I can easily tell it’s an American Apparel brand which Crawl Apparel uses, even though the neck tag is cut off. It’s very soft and a bit thinner, but not that much. It feels great when dressed on and looks really appealing, with many additional prints / details, so all main points are there. In other words – Crawl Apparel means business.

  • T-shirt design

Perhaps you wonder why this design is called “Beerscape 2.0”. Well if you look carefully – there are few beer bottles and cans inserted into cityscape, looking like those big buildings whose lights are never turned off. Add a full moon and a slogan “this city never sleeps” – and you have a perfect tee for going out with style! You might also think it’s just white and black colors used in printing of this design, however there is also dark purple (somehow I wasn’t able to catch it with my camera, but believe me – it’s there in cityscape… ummm, I mean – beerscape).

  • Special feature

And just when you thought it’s all there – Crawl surprises you with a special feature to this shirt, which I usually find annoying. However, here it serves it’s purpose; when in blacklight this design glows in the dark. Still wondering what to wear to the next coed party? I must admit I didn’t try it already, although I wore this shirt a couple of times, but only during the daylight. I’m sure there are plenty of people who dig this effect to their shirts, so Crawl people knew what were they doing with this tee.

  • Additional prints

One thing everyone will notice is Crawl Apparel logo on the back of a tee, just below the neck, which is a nice way to introduce others to this brand (since you’re already wearing a shirt that catches everyone’s attention why shouldn’t they know where you bought it). I’ve already stated that American Apparel neck tag is cut off, so Crawl printed another logo on the inside. Looks cool, besides being practical for complete branding of your line. Me likes. Oh, and by the way – Crawl has a new logo (look on the picture at the top of this post), however I like their older logo a little better.

  • Printing method & maintenance

Crawl Apparel used screen-printing with this tee, as I am sure they are using for all of their products. If you didn’t know – it’s the most common way of printing because it ensures a years-long durability of applied colors (unlike heat transfers or direct-to-garment printers). As presumed, they’ve also used special glow-in-the-dark colors – don’t worry, they won’t wash away or melt while washing the shirt. Speaking of which – this tee is to be washed in warm water with alike colors and it’s not to be ironed over the design. If you stick to this you’ll have a shirt of highest quality that will last for years.

  • Conclusion

In conclusion – Crawl Apparel outdid my expectations with this T-shirt. Not that I expected less – it’s just I didn’t expect this much. Highest quality tee and a very nice, fun design printed with special inks and additional prints for more than affordable price (this tee is only $15.00). Plus – if you order from them I’m sure they’ll throw some additional promo items in the envelope (for example I’ve got two ping pong balls with Crawl logo printed on it, along with some stickers). And if you really like Crawl Apparel – you can find some of their stuff also at 14th Street Clothing.

Sticking to their goal of creating nice, colorful and fun designs Crawl isn’t crawling slowly to the top of Cali-based indie clothing brands – they are taking real big steps! Make sure you also check out their other products if you don’t know what to wear for going out or just going to the beach.

Did you like this T-shirt? What did you think of rest of Crawl Apparel products? I’d love to know, so don’t hesitate to leave your comment below! Thanks!

BeastWreck is the name of a new T-shirt brand which is already destined to become huge. Created by great illustrator & designer Jared Moraitis – a.k.a. BeastPop – whom we recently made an interesting interview with (he also won the gold medal in Teezine T-shirt Olympics in Best T-shirt design category).

Mr. Moraitis is known for his comic-influenced, cartoon illustrations, so no wonder BeastWreck entirely consists of his awesome designs. Valentine is just around the corner and if you’re in love with somebody I bet you already bought a present for them. If not – what are you waiting for? A perfect idea? Well, how about a T-shirt?

Let’s start with two possible scenarios:

  • You’re in love with someone – that’s cool! If you love someone and haven’t got the guts to admit it you might wanna choose some T-shirt design which describes your feelings towards that person the best;
  • You’re in love with yourself – that’s cool, too (although a bit weird)! If you’re not in love with anybody else but yourself you just as well might gift yourself with a great T-shirt design which describes your such feelings the best.

Both ways we’ve got a perfect example of a perfect Valentine’s gift – a Rat On The Run “Love Is In The Air” T-shirt.

Rat On The Run packaging

Rat On The Run packaging

We’re all rats on the run

If you’re not new to Teezine then you might remember UK’s independent clothing line by the name of Rat On The Run, whose great looking sample “Daydream” we reviewed back in 2009. If you’re not familiar with them, let me just tell you they’re designing simple and un-offensive shirts which can be worn on everyday basis. Their quality is top-notch, not just the shirts, but the print too, which we here at Teezine can assure you of since their previous sample stood the test of time, still looking very fresh and non worn out.

With Valentines’ Day approaching Rat On The Run sent us another  one of their samples for a review.

  • Packaging and appereance – similar to previous one, this sample also came packed in somewhat customized ROTR cardboard box. Upon unboxing it we discovered shirt was wrapped into paper and sealed with Rat On The Run sticker. After the shirt was unwrapped it surprised us again how simple and yet pretty it looked. A girly-shirt and design that’s both unpretentious and eye-catching.

  • Design and creativity – although some of you might not be fans of slogan T-shirts (and although “love is in the air” is a bit generic one) we agreed that this design is nice for what it represents. White and purple vintage cartoon-ish fonts printed onto heavy pink colored tee make a nice contrast and emphasizes the message wrapped in those hot love colors.  Add a little detail – a heart-shaped baloon – and you get a cute design to wear around the house, when going to school or shopping in your nearest store. Sport activities accepted, as well.

  • T-shirt type and fitting – sample came in medium size and it fits tight, but comfortable, especially when you have in mind garment is of medium thickness (not too thin or heavy). It’s a 100% cotton shirt which feels nice on your body, tailored that it follows your waist, with those half-sized retro-looking sleeves.
  • Printing method and maintancescreen-printing is used in production of this tee, and it’s one of the most-common and best methods of printing, known for the durability of colors. Maintance is relatively easy – neck label says it is to be 40 degrees machine washed (with like-colors), you can iron it (although it’s recommendable not to iron over the design itself) and you can dry it in the drier (using normal cycle setting). You cannot bleach the shirt, though, as well as dryclean it.
Love Is In The Air T-shirt by Rat On The Run details

Love Is In The Air T-shirt by Rat On The Run details

  • Details and pricing – this shirt also has an additional print – a Rat On The Run cool looking logo on the left sleeve printed in white – which makes the shirt unique and branded. As mentioned before – there is a neck label with company’s logo and maintance instructions, printed silver onto black, adding a touch of glamour to the shirt. Price is £18.00, which is approx. $29.00 at the moment (with postage and packagingt included – not sure if it’s only valid  for UK’s territory though), so the price is  rather affordable.

With all this being said – we concluded Rat On The Run produced nice looking, quality shirt that’s easy to maintain and will last for years. Although using a common slogan – this shirt celebrates love and with it’s affordable price  makes a great Valentine’s Day gift idea. Wheter you buy it for someone else, or for yourself.

Starting a clothing company seems like a cool idea, but will you manage to make it come true? Having great ideas is – of course – very nice, however you must have some luck along the way, too. Luckily for him – Ben Farleigh of London-based streetwear line Yes No Maybe inhereted a screen printer from his dad’s old workplace, along  with some screen-printing frames, so he could start the old-school way: try / fail / learn.

After the nucleus of Yes No Maybe was created Ben managed to broaden his apparel to many various items within next few years. It now offers hooded sweaters, bags, beanies, caps and many other sweet little thingies. It would be almost impossible to present Yes No Maybe whole offer in a single post, so I’ll rather introduce their latest winter line, called Filthy Dirty.

Filthy Dirty women's T-shirt by Yes No Maybe clothing

  • Concept

As you can see Filthy Dirty collection features a splodgy design which is covering each item as a whole. Grey, black and blue stains in various shades are printed onto white pieces of clothes, which makes a great looking combination, especially if you’re wearing it outside (i.e. – hoodies).

  • Offer

Similar to Yes No Maybe previous lines, such as Bukkake Ruined My Carpet and StreetglamFilthy Dirty collection is very diverse, featuring such products as zip-up hoodies (in both men and women styles), women-styled sweaters, vests and caps. It’s certainly much more than many other similar companies offer, however I think they might have included a men-styled sweater, too.

  • Prices

Prices range depending on desired item, starting from £25.65 for women-sytles T-shirts and vests, £39.60 for women-styled crew sweater, up to £53.10 for both men and women-styled zip-thru hoodies. Prices fit the offer well,  I only think that £26.09 for baseball cap is a bit pricey. However that’s just my humble opinion and it shouldn’t prevent you from ordering it.

In conclusion I’d like to state Yes No Maybe is a very interesting  clothing company you should have your eye on. They not only have a wide range of products in their offer, but also feature nice, deliberate designs that represent young opinionated people, not forgetting everything’s relative in life.

Would I recommend Filthy Dirty to you? Yes. Would I lie if I tell you YNM has more cool lines? No. Would I like other items added to Filthy Dirty line? Maybe.

I’d love to hear your opinion on Fithy Dirty line. Would you perhaps like to own some other Yes No Maybe item? Let us all know by leaving your comment below – your opinion is greatly appreciated!

Well it’s fall here in Croatia, Halloween is coming tomorrow night, and what a better time to present a tee which is called “Falling Time” than this? Asking for a review at my blog, Sebastian from Canaduh’s clothing line 604Republic was very kind and offered me a chance to choose a shirt I liked the best from their online shop. My eye caught this wonderful design with a Victorian-looking man falling down and I liked the title, so my choice was obvious. And in case you haven’t heard of 604Republic yet – in their own words it’s “awesome hoodies, amazing apparel”. A few days later I had the chance to ascertain myself of that, as 604Republic parcel found my doors.

Upon unpacking the shirt it was clearly it’s of finest quality, along with the detailed design. It was also evident the shirt is a bit thicker / heavier, which is something you either like or not (I like the diversity with my tees, for example). After I tried the shirt on I’ve also noticed it’s a bit long, which can improve the line of your body, making you look taller and slimmer (specially in my case – at least it’s my illusion). Shirt feels comfortable on your body, although you might find it a bit too tight, which depends on your body constitution.

The design itself is – in my opinion – fantastic and perhaps one of the best tee designs I’ve seen lately. Not only it is done with a great precision, but it looks great and feels nice when you touch it. To make it clearer, I’ve made a few photos in macro-mode on my camera, which is used to take pictures of flowers and insects a few milimetres away from your lens to accent the details. You can slearly see the fibers, along with the awesome screen printing job 604Republic made with this particuar design.

One of the main characteristics of 604Repulic apparel is paying an extra attention to the detail (it can be seen by browsing their online shop), which is illustrated the best by these tiny bits of falling clods. I especially liked how they colored this unfortunate man’s skin by using the somewhat pop-art technique, with all these dots. Oh – and an extra plus for the choice of yellow and blue color combination, which was used to emphasize the drama which is going on.

“This unfortunate gentleman was either thrown or jumped, I suppose we’ll never know the real story”, says 604Apparel. At least he’s taking his watch with him, we agree, loving the word play in the title of this design and it’s position right on the bottom of a tee (if we waited a second more maybe we would have missed the scene). R.I.P., you poor man! It’s hard to survive this kind of falling.

604Republic printed this design on Alstyle Apparel pre-shrunked 100% cotton shirt. I’ve already said it appears to be of finest quality, with the double-needle bottom hem and sleeves. However, I have one complaint. Since an extra attention is paid to details, I’d love if there was a 604Republic neck tag sewn in, or attached to the Alstyle tag. Or even a smaller print / 604Republic logo on the sleeve or at the back of a tee. Anyways, this design is also available as a hoodie, which is this company’s primary product. In my opinion – the design looks better on a tee just because of the print position.

“Falling Time” T-shirt and hoodie are available through 604Republic online shop, where you can find a nice assortment of items in both men and women styles. Concentrating it’s business primarly on hoodies and not on tees, this line  is perhaps choosing the harder way in terms of selling, but no doubt they might position themselves high based on the quality of their designs and products.

If you for some strange reason do follow what I write on this blog, than you must have noticed I’ve already written about this American dynamic duo Dora and Joey, hiding behind the name of Akumu Ink. If so, than you surely know they create their designs based mostly on Japanese imagery (“akumu” means “nightmare”), be it cute Japanese pop icons or it’s horrors.

Big prints and carefuly colored hand drawnings are the main characteristics of Akumu Inks’ designs, which are screen-printed onto garments, be it regular T-shirts, V-necks or hoodies. Now, Dora and Joey recently added three new designs to their online shop, and here they are.

I must add my favourite new Akumu Inks’ nightmare is the first one, called “poisoned” – I just love the drawing and the black / pink / white combination. All shirts are available for $21.99 plus shipping (Akumu Ink delivers internationally). Just a hint for Dora and Joey – how about some karate zombie lessons?
